Joshua+Lauren: A Love Story

Joshua & Lauren met in English Class at Western Oregon University. They were dating 2 1/2 years before the proposal. He proposed at the top of Spanish Peak, on the Pacific Crest Trail, on her 22nd birthday. She is a computer scientist, he's a special educator.

They chose Ron's Pond because they wanted a wedding in a beautiful, secluded, quiet, and peaceful outdoor setting. Ron's Pond certainly delivers that! It was our first time shooting at this venue and we cannot WAIT to go back! The grooms father married them and it was a tear-jerker for all of us. We teased Joshua and Lauren a bit on their wedding day that Joshua was the most smitten groom ever, but quite honestly, it was true. Their adoration for each other was glowing and they had the most joyful, carefree wedding day. Congratulation Lauren & Joshua, we were so honored to be a part of your love story!

Just can't get enough? Check out their sweet video slideshow!

I've signed up for family photos! Now what?!!?

So, you’ve signed up for family pictures with us...and then comes the dreaded thought ....WHAT ARE WE GOING TO WEAR?!! Lucky for you, we've teamed up with the fabulous Kristy of "Styled by Luxe" and she is our personal stylist....and should be yours, too! Kristy offered to guest blog for us today, so without further ado, here is some information from Kristy!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Guys! So once you've signed up for family photos, if you're anything like me... you start to scour the internet for ideas, you look at friends pictures for inspiration and you even ask your photographer if they have suggestions (I’ve done that!). But what if it could be easier? Less stressful? More enjoyable! I think I can help with that in a variety of ways.

First, I want you to consider - where are these pictures going? Do you plan to hang them up in your home? If so, what is the color scheme in your house? What’s your style? You’ll want to make sure these pictures will fit right in! You’ll also want to take into consideration where these pictures are being taken. Outside at a park, or in a city? Maybe you're having a studio session. Your outfits should compliment your house but they should also work well with your surroundings.

Once you've picked your color scheme, the natural instinct is to start figuring out what everyone else is going to wear, so naturally you start with the kids. In my experience when I get everyone else’s outfits put together before mine, it leaves me running around town trying to figure out something to wear, I end up spending more money than I would have if I had started with myself, and I usually don’t even like what I end up wearing. To top it off, the idea of pictures just sounds terrible at that point, not only to myself but to my husband as well because he sees me turning into a crazy person (Yep! Been there!). I understand wanting your pictures to turn out perfect and that’s why I encourage you to start with YOU (YES! YOU!). The kids are easy to dress and spouses, too! Once your outfit is put together the other pieces will fall into place.

Here’s an example of my family pictures from a couple years ago.

Photo by: Heidi & Heather Collective

Now you can see, I didn’t go super matchy-matchy, but the colors in our outfits and the scenery worked very well together (in my opinion) and matched perfectly with our home decor. For these looks I started with my outfit and picked colors for my husband and son from there. I like how Chris’ dark denim picks up the navy from my shirt and Caleb’s sweater and Caleb’s tan and gold pick up the color off of Chris’s shirt and shoes. You can kind of see it, if you look closely, Chris’ shirt had a purple stripe which worked perfectly with my skirt and the flowers on my shirt. We didn’t all wear the same thing (or colors) and we had different patterns but because the colors worked well together and complimented the scenery it all came together perfectly.

If this information isn’t helpful enough and you’re still at a loss as to what to wear let me help you! My small business, Styled By Luxe, can take care of you and your family! I offer custom packages to fit most any need at an affordable rate!

Top 5 Reasons to get your portraits done in the summer!

5. Barefeet and Sundresses...

4. River/beachy sessions

3. Beautiful summer glow and freckles

2. Golden hour sun

1. And the number one reason to get Summer portraits...

CHRISTMAS CARD PHOTOS!

We know, we know... you are thinking... what?! We usually wait until the Fall!

We get it, the Fall leaves are beautiful. However, the Summer has several advantages over the Fall. First, we have longer days, which means we have more availability to shoot your session! Its really hard in the Fall when the sun sets by 5 p.m., which means most people need to shoot their session on the weekends. What happens when we (inevitably) get rained out...sometimes multiple times? Rescheduling sessions in the Fall and syncing up everyone's schedule can be TOUGH.

During the summer we can shoot weekends, and weeknights until 8 p.m.! And we are far less likely to get rained out. Although the Fall leaves are beautiful, you'll never get that amazing Summer golden hour sunset...and who doesn't want that!?

Another advantage to summer photos... cute outfits! Everyone can dress comfortably in dresses, shorts, sandals... in the Fall we often have overcast, drizzly days, which makes for some red and runny noses, less happy kiddos, and bulky coats and sweaters.

Th biggest perk to Summer photos? You're not stressed about how quickly you'll get your photos back - you'll have plenty of time to plan out your cards, keep an eye out for the best deals, and get them ordered, addressed, and sent out in PLENTY of time!

We are so in love with the idea of summer portraits for Christmas cards, that we always do our OWN family portraits in the summer. We already have our own portrait dates on the calendar... so what are you waiting for!? Head on over to our storefront to see what we have available. We have lots of "styled" sessions in the store, but if you like the date and location of a particular event, you are welcome to take advantage of the cute set up, or NOT! Its your call. We can do a totally "normal" portrait session on any of the dates listed in our storefront.

We are looking forward to seeing you and catching up with your family!

Justin + Amy: A Love Story

Justin and Amy were married in September at Adeline Farm.  The big red barn was the perfect place to dance the night away!

Justin and Amy made their ceremony unique by planting a tree instead of the traditional unity candle or sand.  We love that!

Amy's dress might be the most gorgeous dress we have ever seen. We ended the night with an Indian Summer sunset and it did not disappoint!

Matt + Tessa: A Love Story

Matt & Tessa got married in July at one of our very favorite venues, Log House Gardens in Keizer. They started dating in 8th grade and tied the knot 9 years later! They grew up together, went to every dance together, went to college together and are now spending the rest of their lives together. Their wedding was a sweet mix of whimsical, fun, and rustic elegance, featuring mason jars, logs, a candy bar and delicious cupcakes. We had the best day with Matt & Tessa and their friends and family...we can't wait to see what the future holds for them!

Of Love and Softball

image.jpg

We love it when our couples incorporate those special little details in their weddings that tell their unique love story.  Patrick and Lindsay did an amazing job of this!  We had the pleasure of shooting both their engagement photos and their wedding and boy did they hit it out of the park (see what we did there?)!

This sweet couple met playing softball. When Patrick proposed to Lindsay, he did it in the spot where they had their first conversation- the softball field parking lot. They even chose that very field as the backdrop for their engagement photos!

image.jpg

So naturally, they carried that theme into their wedding. Check out the amazing softball-signing guest book from their special day.

image.jpg
image.jpg

The details didn't stop there!  How amazing are these custom Nike's the bride had made in honor of her new last name?

image.jpg

And this floral crown she wore was to die for!

image.jpg

We were all heart-eyes for that bursting color combination of sage green, dusty lavender and plum purple.  Just stunning.

image.jpg

Boy were we ever feeling the love with this huge bridal party!  There were four groomsman and 12 bridesmaids, who worked hard at decorating this beautiful day for Patrick and Lindsay.

image.jpg

And who could forget their sweet golden retriever, Sly, who played a special part of their special day.

image.jpg

Thanks to Lindsay and Patrick!  It was an honor to be part of this gorgeous day!

Veronica Shares Her Mini Session Experience With HHWP!

image.jpg

Hi!  My name is Veronica and I wanted to share our mini session experience with you guys.

It has been over a week since our mini session with Heidi and Heather, and I cannot stop gushing about our experience. Heather has been our go-to photographer since my maternity photo shoot and we’ve always come out with great pictures and an amazing experience.

This last mini-session was our first official family photo shoot and I was so nervous! I was certain my son would be grumpy and clingy and refuse to give even one smile. Boy, was I wrong!

image.jpg

Heidi and Heather are the Dream Team! I could see the difference right away in how easy it was to have two photographers. Heidi made the best sounds and tickled my son until he started flashing us a smile. He was comfortable from the beginning which made my husband and I relax as well.

image.jpg

Heather always catches great shots and they were excellent at finding the right light and perfect poses.

image.jpg

I was in awe of how well they communicated and bounced ideas off one another. They were fast and efficient and all-around brilliant! I look forward to more mini and full sessions with Heidi and Heather.

image.jpg

They give us amazing memories to last a lifetime! Thank you, ladies!

Exciting News!

image.jpg

We have some exciting new developments to share with you today!  As small business owners, we strive to provide the best experience for our clients while simultaneously giving the best of ourselves to our families. If you have ever owned a small business or know someone who does, you know that it can be hard to find balance.  We have been trying to think of ways to achieve that balance and guess what?  We think we figured it out!

When we are shooting weddings, our couples are getting two seasoned photographers with years of experience working together. There is a very natural flow to our joint sessions.  Plus you are getting two unique perspectives and images that you just couldn't get with only one photographer.

So why not apply this strategy to more of our sessions?  Recently we we started shooting our mini sessions together and we realized, hey, this really works!  We gave our clients the best experience and images, and honestly, our photos have never looked better!

image.jpg

It allowed us to have one person posing your kiddos, tickling them, blowing bubbles, singing and dancing and overall getting those genuine smiles that we always strive for.... while the other person was snapping away. We got some great client feedback, and we also got to take turns snuggling your little people, so there's that bonus!

image.jpg

On the back end of things, we are splitting our workload and making ourselves more available to our families. Win win!

We want you to know we are not raising our prices because there are two of us!  We are simply giving you twice the attention and making your investment go even further.

We are also improving the way we deliver your gorgeous images to you. While we will still provide you with the digital images, we are also working hard to make sure those memories are printed. Your life is busy. We get it. Who has time for all that? If you join one of our mini session events, we will offer rock bottom special prices on prints, canvases, and custom designed lay-flat albums. Truly, they are gorgeous and our clients can't get enough. Check out this recent note we got from a client:

Check out the images from our most recent mini sessions and see why we love what we do when we do it together!

It's National Beer Day!  Also known as "every day" in Oregon. Seriously, beer is kind of a big deal here Northwest, so it isn't a surprise that you can find delicious craft beer paired with just about everything here.

In Portland, you can drink beer and pedal a bar-shaped bike from brewery to brewery with 12 of your closest friends.  In Salem, you can find your center and a delicious ale at  a yoga and beer class.  So it's only natural that we Oregonians would turn to our beloved breweries when it's time to get hitched!

Colten + Michelle

image.jpg

We are so excited to share another love story with you today!  Meet Colten and Michelle! This sweet couple met on a blind date through a mutual friend.  The sparks flew so high on that first date that Colten declared to his matchmaking friend he was going to marry that girl!

image.jpg

After a second date with each of their dogs in tow, Michelle said they were "attached at the hip!"  Soon they moved in together, and rescued their dane-lab mix, Keira.

image.jpg

Colten followed through with his declaration exactly one year after rescuing Keira, who carried the engagement ring to Michelle on her collar. Of course Keira will be the ring bearer at their vineyard wedding this summer.

image.jpg

We had so much fun with them on this dreamy sunset engagement session.  And oh what a romantic, rustic setting!  Congratulations Michelle and Colten! We can't wait to capture your special day!

Five on Friday

Well it sure has been a soggy winter here in the Northwest, but wait, are those crocuses and daffodils we see?  Spring is on the way and all of that famed Northwest rain will soon bring that burst of flowers to brighten our days! Until then, here are some stunning centerpieces filled with gorgeous blooms.
